The OUTsiderz: Interview Skills Part 1

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP SKILLS TRAINING SERIES

What do you want to organize OUTside the lines? Do you have an organizing project you are looking to build from the inside OUT, and need the skills to do it? We are here to cultivate your skills to build towards a dream project that you have wanted to bring to life.

This Leadership Development Series will support you by increasing your skills and developing your leadership within the realm of community organizing and social change work. This training will help you to better challenge the multiple oppressions faced by LGBTSTGNC People of Color communities. We are committed to training and building our community members so that we are all recognized as individuals with power who are collectively building movement. We want you to have more tools to build vision and transform our lives!

***This Workshop series is open to folks who identify as LGBTSTGNC POC only***


Interpreter's Training

When: 
Saturday, October 8, 2016 - 10:00am to Sunday, October 9, 2016 - 7:00pm

ALP’s Annual Interpreter Training is a part of a larger vision of Language Justice in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (LGBTSTGNC) Immigrant of Color communities.  This Interpreter Training seeks to provide opportunities for LGBTSTGNC Immigrants of Color who are already informal community interpreters to:  

  • Gain greater skills in interpretation.
  • Learn resources and strategies to use interpretation to generate income.
  • Better understand how to make our community spaces more accessible.
  • Share knowledge about health, social and community resources.
  • Share resources on translating health, sexuality and gender issues.

Interpreting for Social Justice Training!

Saturday, October 8, 2016 - 10:00am to Sunday, October 9, 2016 - 6:00pm

Are you a LGBTSTGNC Immigrant who's fluent in English and another language?  Are you a LGBTSTGNC person of color who's fluent in English and another language and wants to support immigrant rights work?   Interested in gaining interpretation skills AND learning about interpreting for social justice?   

 

"I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to have participated in The Interpreting for Social Justice training offered by the Audre Lorde Project. It was a relevant, useful and exciting training.  I was able to connect with others from similar backgrounds and share real life situations and personal stories. All of these stories helped reinforce my desire to be active as an advocate in my own community and in my professional life. Together we were able to learn about: providing language accessibility to promote social justice, create multilingual spaces to support immigrant communities, and build alliances across communities.  I highly recommend this training to other bi-lingual or multi-lingual LGBTSTGNC Immigrants of color who would like to utilize their privilege of being bi/multi lingual to promote social justice in their communities.

I have since been able to use my newly developed skills to provide socially just and ethical interpreting to immigrant people of color at my job and also through my membership with ALP. This has solidified my bond with other LGBTSTGNC Immigrant People of Color.  I look forward to continuing to develop and use my skills for the advancement of historically and presently oppressed people."

Daring to be Powerful in The Bronx!

Daring to Be Powerful (DTBP) is one of New York City's largest People of Color centered community organizing workshops.  The Audre Lorde Project aims to build both individual and collective power to better challenge the multiple oppressions faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Transgender and Gender Non Conforming People of Color communities.  DTBP is our signature organizing institute for building skills, analysis of oppression & power, learning about current issues and campaigns to get involved with, and offering opportunities for strategizing and community organizing.

TransJustice Community School 1.5

We’re calling all graduates of TransJustice Community School to apply to our first ever TransJustice Community School 1.5!

TransJustice Community School 1.5 is a four week program focused on campaign organizing where participants will learn skills needed to develop and implement a grassroots campaign that works towards the liberation of Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color. Together we will generate knowledge from our lived experiences and our community’s rich history as we continue to build this movement together.

 

TransJustice School 1.5 is for People of Color who identify as Trans and Gender Non Conforming who have graduated from TransJustice Community School (this is a pre-requisite) for example people who identify as Trans, Gender Non-conforming, gender variant, gender deviant, butch lesbians, drag queens, bi-gendered, Two-Spirit, drag kings, femme queens, A.G., gender queer, non-gendered, andro, gender-benders, etc. People who graduated from TransJustice Community School between 2010-2016.

Reclamation of Resilience: Transforming The History of The Medical Industrial Complex

Join Cara Page and Adaku Utah as we explore the history of state and private control and medical experimentation on Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Two Spirit, and Gender Non Conforming/People of Color for the profit of the medical industry and as an extension of policing, violence, and surveillance. We will look at the impact of these oppressive practices on our individual and collective bodies/lives and how we have transformed, resisted, and are responding to both historical and current stories.
